Ovakav oblik lopatice \u201ere\u017ee\u201c mlaz vode u dva dijela od kojih svaki napu\u0161ta lopaticu pod <a title=\"Kut\" href=\"https:\/\/hr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kut\">kutom<\/a> od gotovo 180\u00b0. Osebujnost lopatica Peltonovih turbina je u tome \u0161to nisu stalno optere\u0107ene, kao npr. lopatice rotora <a title=\"Francisova turbina\" href=\"https:\/\/hr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Francisova_turbina\">Francisovih turbina<\/a>, ve\u0107 su samo privremeno u dodiru s mlazom. Tijekom dodira lopatice s mlazom nagib lopatice prema mlazu, kao i mjesto gdje ovaj ulazi u lopaticu, se stalno mijenja.<\/p><p>Ovisno o konstrukciji, Peltonove turbine mogu imati jednu ili vi\u0161e mlaznica, odnosno slobodnih mlazova, a rotor turbine mo\u017ee biti postavljen na vodoravno ili okomito vratilo, na kojem mogu biti postavljena jedan ili dva rotora. Postavljanje vi\u0161e rotora na okomito vratilo zahtijeva pa\u017eljivu konstrukciju, kako gornji rotor ne bi hidrodinami\u010dki naru\u0161avao rad donjeg rotora. Izvedba Peltonove turbine s okomitim vratilom je povoljnija, jer omogu\u0107uje dovod vode po obodu rotora, te postavljanje rotora na minimalnu visinu iznad donje vode. Dovod vode po obodu rotora (u istoj horizontalnoj ravnini) omogu\u0107uje kori\u0161tenje ve\u0107eg broja mlazova koji se nalaze na istoj geodetskoj koti, a \u0161to je povoljno sa stanovi\u0161ta regulacije.<\/p><p>Rotor Peltonove turbine, radi konstrukcijskih razloga, mora biti izdignut iznad donje vode za iznos koji je izravni gubitak, te treba biti minimalan.<\/p><p>Konstrukcijski gledano, Peltonove turbine su najednostavnije vodne turbine koje se sastoje od privoda vode, mlaznica i rotora. Mlaznicama se vr\u0161i pretvorba <a title=\"Tlak\" href=\"https:\/\/hr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tlak\">tla\u010dne<\/a> u <a title=\"Kineti\u010dka energija\" href=\"https:\/\/hr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kineti%C4%8Dka_energija\">kineti\u010dku energiju<\/a> vodnog mlaza, koji tu istu energiju predaje lopatici rotora. Regulacija se izvodi pomicanjem regulacijske igle.<\/p><p>Naglim zatvaranjem mlaznica regulacijskom iglom nastao bi hidrauli\u010dki udar u tla\u010dnom cjevovodu, koji bi mogao izazvati ne\u017eeljene posljedice i nesre\u0107u. Francisove turbine imaju veliki stupanj iskoristivosti kapaciteta s preko 90%, te veliki raspon djelovanja u odnosu na visinu (konstruktivni pad) fluida pri protoku kroz turbinu. To je naro\u010dito nagla\u0161eno kod <a title=\"Voda\" href=\"https:\/\/hr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Voda\">vode<\/a> gdje posti\u017ee optimalan rad pri konstruktivnom padu od 20 metara do \u010dak 700 metara, a izlazna snaga mo\u017ee biti od par <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Kilovat\" href=\"https:\/\/hr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kilovat\">kilovata<\/a> do 750 MW. Da bi se smanjili sudarni gubici i osiguralo strujanje vode s najmanje hidrauli\u010dkih gubitaka, u ve\u0107ini propelernih turbine, lopatice radnog kola mogu se zakretati u pogonu. Izvedba turbina sa zakretnim lopaticama rotora je slo\u017eenija nego izvedba obi\u010dnih propelernih turbina, no njihove energetske karakteristike su znatno povoljnije.
